Bill #2155 proposes the addition of a tax to all city of Laurel hotels and vacation rentals. Senator Juan Barnett is the author of the bill and a long time supporter of progress in Laurel & Jones County. Funds from this tax will be dedicated to tourism and marketing. Bill #2155 made it out of the Senate’s Local and Private Committee & Finance Committee. It arrived on the Senate Floor on March 8, 2022 and was passed. The next step is for the bill to move to the House. If passed there, the city of Laurel resident’s will vote on it. The Jones County EDA fully supports this bill and is looking forward to following its progress.
